How I Help
TriBeCa Therapy is a center for psychotherapy that was founded on the assumption that human beings are original, imaginative, inspired, and inventive. I believe that we are fundamentally creative, and that creativity is fundamentally joyful.
But even people in creative jobs can have a difficult time bringing that creativity to the rest of their lives. And no matter what you do, if you’re looking for a therapist it’s likely that for you, those qualities have gotten lost along the way. I don’t put you in a diagnostic box or sit passively and ask, What do you think about that? I listen to what you have to say. Then we roll up our sleeves and go to work.
We’re not working on getting you to feel better. Feeling better is a short-term fix. What transforms people’s lives is getting better, at building—building their friendships, their business and personal relationships, their therapy. Building their lives.
Because happiness isn’t a gift, or a right, or luck. It’s a skill. TriBeCa Therapy works because we build the skills that help you build the life you want.
Here’s how it works:
Making an appointment for therapy
You call (or send me an email, that’s fine too). I call or email you back (usually pretty quickly) and we either a) talk a little more about what’s happening with you and then make an appointment or b) go ahead and set up an appointment.
What does it cost?
I work on a sliding scale fee for therapy. That means that’s a reflection of my decision to work with a broad range of patients, not just people who can pay top dollar for therapy. If you don’t think you can afford therapy, call or email me anyway and we’ll see what we can figure out. If for some reason I’m not able to see you, I’ll work with you to find someone who can.
Insurance?
Many of my patients are able to receive reimbursement (or partial reimbursement) from their health insurance companies if they have out-of-network coverage. Consult your insurance plan to find out if you have out-of-network coverage, and what they’ll reimburse. You will be required to pay for your therapy and then get reimbursed by your insurance company. I’ll provide you with the necessary paperwork to help make that as easy as possible.
Initial appointment
The session is about 55 minutes. That first session isn’t an assessment or evaluation or diagnostic process. We’re trying to accomplish at least two things in that first session: You and I deciding together if we’re a good match; and giving you some help, right away, with what it is you’ve come in for.
