Morning Sickness Can Be Serious Suffering: We Acknowledge The Emotional Toll In Therapy

At Tribeca Maternity, we understand that morning sickness is not only physical but emotional too. At first, morning sickness is often welcomed as a sign you’re pregnant and your pregnancy is progressing well. But morning sickness can also mean serious suffering. For some women, morning sickness can last the whole pregnancy, and with hyperemesis gravidarum, it can be especially severe. In therapy at our offices in Lower Manhattan, as well as our remote therapy sessions, we acknowledge and talk about the physical and emotional toll that morning sickness can have on your life.

You Have to Ask for More Because You Need More

Even though you have morning sickness, life still happens. You’re still going to work, caring for your kids, going to doctor’s appointments—all while navigating often crippling pain. To get by in such a demanding time, you have to ask for more because you need more. In therapy, we’ll help you figure out what help you need right now and how to get it from your work, your doctor, and your partner

Couples Therapy Helps Couples Share the Burden of Morning Sickness

In couples therapy, we explore what is happening in the relationship when one partner is in pain while the other isn’t. Together we’ll look at the role morning sickness is playing in the relationship, as well as ways to share the burden of pain so that one partner doesn’t feel helpless as the other suffers.
