At Tribeca Maternity, We Care About Getting Your Baby Fed, Not How That Happens

Breastfeeding is a wonderful thing that’s the right choice for many women. And it’s also not the right choice for many others. Our goal is to get your baby fed no matter what that looks like.

Fed babies are happy babies that sleep better, which has a positive impact on your bond, experience, and emotional and physical health. We understand that decisions about feeding aren’t moral choices—they’re functional ones. In therapy at Tribeca Maternity, we talk about how you want to feed your baby during this time, what that will look like, and how it feels for you.

We’ll Help You Make Feeding Decisions That Are Right for You

Parents often don’t know how feeding will go until it happens. You don’t know how feeding will work for you, or what it will feel like. When making decisions about feeding, your emotional experience is important. In therapy in person at our offices in Lower Manhattan, as well as in remote therapy, we’ll talk through your feeding decisions so that they can be made with power and care toward yourself, your family, and your baby.

Yes, It’s Okay to Stop Breastfeeding

One of the questions that frequently comes up around feeding concerns is about stopping breastfeeding. Our short answer is: Yes, you can allow yourself to stop breastfeeding. Even if people tell you otherwise or if you wanted to breastfeed for longer, if it’s stopped working for you, it’s stopped working for you. And that’s okay. At Tribeca Maternity, we’ll help you assert what is happening for you when it comes to breastfeeding and make a decision about when to stop with kindness, care, and power.

Feeding Your Baby Is Also a Couple’s Issue

If a couple is stuck or having fights around feeding decisions, couples therapy is an opportunity for both partners to sit down and consult about what is best for the mother, baby, and family, as well as how everyone feels about it. Figuring out how to feed your baby is not about compromise; it’s about survival.
