Having Twins or Multiples Isn’t Just More of a Good Thing—It’s a New Normal

At Tribeca Maternity, we talk to parents or soon-to-be parents of multiples about how having twins (or more!) changes everything. Friends and family are likely to be excited for you, but they may not fully understand the unique challenges. During your pregnancy, we’ll help you feel prepared by talking through:

  • Emotional responses
  • Financial concerns
  • Pregnancy challenges with multiples
  • Birth and premature birth, including NICU
  • Late miscarriage
  • What to expect after birth

Learning to Care For and Love Multiple Babies at the Same Time Is Physically and Emotionally Demanding

Loving and caring for two or more babies at the same time heightens physical demands and emotional ones too. You may feel like you have to split your heart to give each child the love they deserve. In therapy at our Tribeca offices, as well as remote therapy, together we’ll process:

  • Trying to give your babies the same amount of love and care
  • Accepting that you can’t give them the same care all the time
  • Asking for and accepting help, even remotely (you need as much as you can get)

Moms of Multiples Are Superhuman, and They Need a Super Team

No matter how much help you get, it’s likely not enough. Raising twins and multiples means learning to live with not doing it all right, as well as feeling like you don’t have enough to give. We’ll help you figure out:

  • Ways to get creative about getting the help you need
  • Whose help you need, and what kind of help they can give
  • Ways to strengthen your parental partnership
  • How to build and use your team with you as the leader
  • How to help family and friends help you
  • The unique direction your team of caregivers needs

Couples Need to Make Room For Themselves Too

If you’re raising twins or multiples in a couple, you still need as much help as you can get. We help couples create and lead their super team too. But couples also need space to tend to their partnership and adjust to a new normal together. In couples therapy at Tribeca Maternity, we create that space. We’ll help you strengthen your partnership for yourselves, for your babies, and for the super team behind you.
