As our Downtown NYC therapy practice continues to expand, we have been bringing on more talented and experienced therapists that help shape and influence our practice as much as we foster their growth. We’re pleased to introduce Nora Dankner, LCAT who recently joined Tribeca Therapy earlier this year. A psychotherapist and art therapist, Nora approaches therapy with an appreciation that getting inspired by an idea or material can provide an opportunity for creativity and change.
As with all the therapists we seek to hire for our NYC therapy practice, Nora brings a wealth of expertise. After acquiring her undergraduate degree from Washington University and working as a teacher, Nora completed her Master’s in Art Therapy at Pratt Institute. She has worked in both schools and medical settings, where she treated individuals, families, children and teens dealing with complex medical conditions and provided bereavement counseling to families facing significant medical challenges and loss.
Like Tribeca Therapy as a whole, Nora doesn’t apply these methods in an off-the-shelf manner, seeing them, instead, as tools to be built for each individual patient. By developing strong, compassionate trust, she works with patients to learn what is important to them and how these tools might be most effective in creating the kind of life they want. Believing that art making can easily go hand in hand with talk therapy, Nora also understands that particularly adults can find art making intimidating. Related to her own experience as an artist who felt drawn to clay, a material that she initially found very challenging, Nora knows that trying something new can be a chance to gain new perspective and insight.
